Mexico announce list for friendlies and Copa América

Mexico have announced their player call-up list for the summer friendlies and the 2024 Copa América. Coach Jaime Lozano has announced the 31 players that will take part in the friendlies and then eventually be shaved down to 23 for the Copa América. There were a number of big surprises as Mexico return to the most important tournament they’ll play prior to the 2026 World Cup.

The call up list was the following:

Goalkeepers: Luis Malagon (América), Raul Rangel (Chivas), Julio Gonzalez (Pumas)

Defenders: Johan Vasquez (Genoa), Cesar Montes (Almeria), Jorge Sanchez (Porto), Jesus Orozco (Chivas), Gerardo Arteaga (Monterrey), Alexis Peña (Necaxa), Israel Reyes (América), Bryan Gonzalez (Pachuca), Brian Garcia (Toluca), Victor Guzman (Monterrey)

Midfielders: Edson Alvarez (West Ham United), Orbelin Pineda (AEK Athens), Luis Chavez (Dinamo Moscow), Erick Sanchez (Pachuca), Roberto Alvarado (Chivas), Carlos Rodriguez (Cruz Azul), Luis Romo (Monterrey), Jordan Carrillo (Santos), Fernando Beltran (Chivas), Marcelo Flores (Tigres), Andres Montaño (Mazatlan)

Forwards: Santiago Gimenez (Feyenoord), Julian Quiñones (América) , Guillermo Martinez (Pumas), Uriel Antuna (Cruz Azul), Cesar Huerta (Pumas), Alexis Vega (Toluca), Diego Lainez (America)

The main news coming from the list is the number of omissions from the regulars.
