ISU bats come up short in loss to Edwardsville

NORMAL — While undeniable that two Illinois State relievers surrendered the deciding five runs in the 10th inning Tuesday at Duffy Bass Field, the ire of Redbird coach Bo Durkac was not directed at his pitching staff after a 7-2 loss to Southern Illinois Edwardsville.

“This is the most disappointed I’ve been,” Durkac said. “We’ve been a really good offensive team this year, but this was just bad.”

While slipping to 14-18, the Redbirds managed only two seventh-inning runs against a Cougars’ pitching staff that sported a 7.42 ERA entering the nonconference game and had surrendered at least 10 runs in seven of its past eight outings.
