Erik ten Hag insists Mason Mount needs to be given time to find his footing in Manchester United's 'new midfield' after struggling in deeper-lying role in Premier League opener against Wolves

Erik ten Hag admits Mason Mount needs time to adapt to a deeper midfield role following his £60million transfer to Manchester United from Chelsea.

United’s move for Mount caused surprise in some quarters considering Ten Hag was in the market for a defensive midfielder this summer.

Mount’s Premier League debut didn’t go to plan as United laboured to a 1-0 win over Wolves at Old Trafford on Monday night and his midfield partner Casemiro was frequently left exposed. It was only when Christian Eriksen replaced the England man in the 68th minute that United looked more compact.
